Ethekwini Bus Service is fortunate in that we have a history with this institution as we have been providing the student transport services for the past five years. The company is familiar with the institution from the heads of departments to the students we service, our own employees have become part of the institutes family.
The progress of the company is due to the university and their trusting of us when we were awarded the contract in 2009. This has in turn allowed Ethekwini Bus Service to give back to the institution over the past five years to note:
In continuing with our commitment toward the institution, we have pledged an annual donation of R200, 000.00 which is our contribution towards student tuition. We see this as a way in which we can play a part in alleviating the student debt crisis that the university and the students are faced with currently.
We have started to roll out a project of installing flat screen TV’s and uncapped WIFI connection in all our buses as part of the technological advancement to enable academic and social lives of the students particularly during trips between the campuses and the residences. These TV screens shall also be utilized by the institution to communicate with students or to market the university.
Ethekwini Bus Service acknowledges that business is dynamic and to remain competitive we have to encompass the changes in the business environment. Over the years the institute has grown and additional residences acquired to house students. Ethekwini Bus Service has been at these times able to acquire additional buses to service the institute.
STAFF STRENGHTH: We currently have a staff of 42 dedicated to the MUT contract.
STUDENT MONITORING: We have a student card access monitoring system whereby each residence student card is marked with a different colour with the name of the residence, the name and photo of student as well as the student number. Our inspectors check these student cards for verification if that student is permitted to board the bus or not. This system prevents unauthorized individuals to utilize the bus.
FLEET STRENGTH: We currently have a fleet of 44 buses 30 of these are dedicated to the MUT contract please see attached fleet list and certificates of registration. At the end of each trip/day/month reports are issued on efficiencies of service. The company has a risk management team which monitors the routes taken by the buses and daily reports given of all incidences Our vehicles are serviced and maintained on a regular basis and we have a 24 hour bus alert system whereby at any time of the day there is a mechanic/ driver / manager available for road side assistance.
