Brief Overview of eThekwini Bus Services

Established Year

Ethekwini Bus Service was established in 2007 by Mandla Gcaba. The first contract obtained was with Mangosuthu University of Technology and contract that held for 5years and saw the bus strength grow from fifteen buses to a fleet of forty four buses at current.

2007

Tansnat Africa

Mandla Gcaba as the sole shareholder of Ethekwini Bus Service went into a joint venture with Tansnat Africa and took over the Masithembe Operation comprising of a fleet of 130 buses in Richards Bay.

In the same year together with Tansnat Africa, Tansnat Durban was formed and took over the running of the Durban Transport contract consisting of 500 buses.

2009

ACSA contract

Ethekwini Bus Service successfully secured the ACSA contract for the conveyance of staff from the old DIA to KSIA. This contract still runs at current and compromises of 5 buses.

2010
EBS

UKZN contract

Ethekwini Bus Service secured the UKZN contract to transport students to and from the Westville and Edgewood campuses, this involved 14 buses for a period of 18 months.

2011

learner transportation

Ethekwini Bus Service secured the student learner transportation contract for the Ugu District. The 4 buses and 8 midi buses based there transport the pupils of different schools to and from their homes. This is a three year contract.

In addition, the company has a fleet of 30 taxis and midi buses which operate separately from the buses.

Head Office: the main office is situated in Ridgeside Office Park in Umhlanga, this is the admin hub of the business.

The Workshop: this is situated in Lamontville business hub where we have a dedicated team of five mechanics and their assistance who work to ensure the smooth running of the buses.

Depots: the depots of the buses are situated at the different sites where our clients are based ie: Umlazi, Isipingo and Ugu District. We find this allows us to better service our clients as they have access to our buses at any times.

Ethekwini Bus Service prides itself in using only the latest and modern equipment. It is our belief that our customers image and efficacy is portrayed in the choice of suppliers and that the suppliers must reflect their standards and values and adherence to good corporate governance in all spheres of the operation. To date all new vehicles purchased comply with the latest Euro specifications allowing us to abide by all environmental regulations and provide an efficient service. At current we have a fleet of 44 buses.
The entire fleet is fitted with tracking devices and the vehicles are monitored on a live 24 hour basis. In addition to this all dispatchers and monitors have cell phones that allow keeping in contact with all buses at all times. Ethekwini Bus Service has a philosophy that every contract has a dedicated contracts manager who reports to the operations manager. We also employ an external team of risk inspectors that monitor the services.
Ethekwini Bus Service recognizes that training underpins the success of every business in the current climate of a diminishing skills pool and ever increasing need to uplift our staff to higher levels of excellence. It is the policy of this company that every employee under goes the necessary training both generic and job related training to taking up their designated positions. Drivers who form the core of our operation spends at least one month in the training school prior to going on the road and even then he operates at least two weeks with a senior driver before he operates on his own.
